Hikvision unveils new speed dome camera with impressive optical zoom

by vmstoday - on Aug 22nd 2017 - No Comments

Hikvision, a supplier of innovative video surveillance products and solutions has launched a new Network IR Speed Dome (DS-2DF8250I5X-AEL (W)) with an impressive 50x optical zoom lens, giving it the ability to pick out more details over wider areas. The camera is also the first product to have Optical Image Stabilisation to compensate for image drift.

50X Optical Zoom

With a zoom lens that can go from 6.6mm to 330mm, objects can be seen at an even further distance than before. This gives the operator a lot more flexibility to track and check people or objects in and around their area. The camera also boasts Eagle Eye focus technology, making the image clear, even when zooming.
Optical Image Stabilisation

The Speed Dome is the first Hikvision camera to use the new Optical Image Stabilization technology, making the image clearer than ever. When the lens is stable, the image is focused on the centre of the sensor, but when the lens shakes that focus drifts away from the center. This causes blurring on the image. The camera uses a gyroscope to measure the vibration and send that information to a processing chip. This then uses an algorithm to make an adjustment to the IS lens to correct the drift.

Other features include:

• 2MP, with H.265+
• Up to 500m IR distance
• Rapid focus, for a clear image even when zooming
• 1/2.8” progressive scan CMOS chip.

This camera can be used in scenarios that call for wide ranges and/or high-definition. This makes it ideal for outdoor areas, such as the rivers, forests, roads, railways, airports, ports, squares, parks, scenic spots, stations and large venues.

A Hikvision Product Manager said, “This product offers customers not just one, but two firsts for us. One of our furthest zoom distances coupled with our new optical image stabilization technology, means they can benefit from stable images at further distances. It’s another example of our drive to continuously push innovation in the surveillance industry. ”

H.265 compression: The Future of Video Surveillance, or One More Choice?

by katieG - on May 18th 2017 - No Comments

In security, there are two warring needs in digital security monitoring. The first need is for high-quality video. After all, having images of a problem isn’t helpful if you can’t get any good detail from it. Being able to identify parties, or read details on items, can be the critical difference between useful information and redundant footage.

The second need in digital security monitoring is storage. Once it is recorded, video needs to be stored, and that takes up both memory space and processor power for streaming. That space and power cost a lot of money. Since this is the case, the size of a video file plays a major role in the costs of any security setup. Finding a balance has not always been easy, but a new codec hopes to reconcile these two issues and strike a new balance. Today, we will explore this and tease out the good, the bad, and situations where h.265 compression just might be the right choice.

Panasonic WV-SFN110 Review: i-PRO Indoor Dome Network Camera

by Albert Breton - on May 9th 2017 - No Comments

I was excited to see Panasonic’s little WV-SFN110 indoor camera.  However, the excitement faded pretty quickly as I tried to configure the camera.  Let me get all the griping out before I go in to the camera itself.  Like many camera manufacturers they think that everyone only runs Windows workstations. The Easy IP software which is supposed to help you set the IP initially is an EXE file so it only runs on Windows.  I tried to use the Easy IP tool to scan for the camera so I could re-IP it, but no luck.  I had to run a port scan on my network to find the camera, so for people who does not know how to run a port scan to find the IP the camera is operating on, it would be a problem.

Once I found the IP I connected with the only browser supported; Microsoft Internet Explorer.  It is beyond me why camera manufacturers do not select a browser platform which can be used from Macs, Linux and Windows, instead of painting themselves into a corner only allowing Internet Explorer.  With Windows 10, Microsoft wants you to use the Edge browser, but that is not supported either, so you must connect to the camera using Internet Explorer, no matter how much you hate it.
